Near field communication, also known as close range wireless communication, is a short range high frequency wireless communication technology that allows electronic devices to exchange data between non-contact point to point data transmission (within ten centimeters). The technology is evolved from the contact free radio frequency identification (RFID), and down compatible with RFID, the earliest Philips, Nokia and Sony main push, which is mainly used in handset and other handheld devices.
NFC integrates non - contact card reader, contactless card and point to point (Peer-to-Peer) into a single chip, creating new opportunities for the consumer's lifestyle. This is an open interface platform, which can be quickly and actively set up the wireless network, and also a virtual connector. It serves the existing honeycomb network, Bluetooth and wireless 802.11 devices. NFC is compatible with the Sony Corp's FeliCaTM card and the widely established contactless smart card architecture based on ISO 14443 A, using PHILPS's MIFARE technology.
Because near field communication has natural security, NFC technology is considered to have great application prospects in mobile payment and other fields.
Applications include financial payment, advertising, communications, transportation and so on. A creative team of China University of Petroleum (East China) used NFC technology to develop an intelligent bicycle lock controlled by app. In the future, NFC technology will have more and more extensive applications.
